The Zirkle Mill Foundation, Inc., is a non-profit Virginia corporation, whose purpose is to preserve historic structures and places, primarily in Shenandoah County, Virginia, for the education and enjoyment of the public.

The Foundation was incorporated on September 14, 2004, in response to the purchase of the Zirkle Mill by the Frontier Culture Museum of Staunton.   The Museum had announced plans to dismantle the structure and transport it to the Museum, a move that would have stripped the Mill of its U.S. and Virginia historic landmark designations, as well as deprived Shenandoah County of one of its most valuable historic properties.

As a result, a broad based community effort was initiated. Numerous Shenandoah County residents, Zirkle family descendents, and preservationists organized to save the Mill.   After months of work, the Governor of Virginia was persuaded that it was inappropriate for the Mill to be moved by the state-supported Museum over the objections of the people of Shenandoah County.   Subsequently the Mill was sold to Robert Andrews and his sister, Sherryl Belinsky, Zirkle family descendents.   Andrews, who also had founded the Save the Zirkle Mill Foundation (now called Old Dominion Preservation) intends to restore the Mill and incorporate educational programs for the public.

Zirkle Mill Foundation is funded by donations from interested citizens, primarily from Shenandoah County, as well as State, Federal and private foundations.  Anyone interested in making a tax-deductible contribution to the Foundation may contact the Treasurer, Sharon L.
